Miyoko’s Creamery
Task
Creative Direction. Launched a new vegan brand.
ROLE:
Creative Director
SUMMARY:
Miyoko’s Creamery is a small-batch vegan cheese manufacturer that started out in Fairfax, Ca. We were a team of three: Miyoko, the Founding CEO, and myself. We started off in a small room above Miyoko’s garage – there wasn’t a name, or a facility, or even an identity – just an amazing product that needed to make it to the public. Seven months later, Miyoko’s Creamery started manufacturing organic, cashew-based cheese. In less than 3 weeks after launching, the company pre-sold over 10,000 pounds of vegan cheese. The company has since grown their amazing line of vegan products and moved to a much larger facility in Petaluma, Ca.
*All of Miyoko’s products are pretty amazing – even if you’re not a vegan.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Brand strategy, identity, product naming, environmental design, and UX design.
Developed creative brief and interviewed external design agencies. Contracted the ever-so-talented Juli Shore Design for our final logo and packaging design. She worked with us through several name changes and executed the final design with a unique and slightly bespoke touch.
Pitch packages for investors – all made with recycled, non-toxic ink and compostable materials.
Interior and exterior design direction for retail, kitchen, and office space. Worked directly with CEO and architect. Introduced the concept of adding window displays into manufacturing area, aging room, via the retail space. This allowed a previously “windowless” space to be brighter/lighter and more inviting to the overall process of vegan cheese making. We transformed a simple space into an inclusive and dynamic experience.
Designed and led the production of brand materials: business cards, sales/marketing materials/trade show booth, packaging, email campaigns, etc. Prototyped, designed and launched corporate website. Established and launched social outreach via Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Website and email campaigns.
